Behind the Scenes: Infusing Hawaiian Culture into the SPAM Brand

Updated: May 3

In the world of advertising, it's not often that a local graffiti artist gets the chance to leave a lasting mark on an iconic brand. But that's exactly what happened when Kamea Hadar, a renowned Hawaiian graffiti artist, lent his creative vision to the new can design for SPAM. As a local production company deeply rooted in Hawaiian culture, Mysto Productions was honored to capture the essence of this unique collaboration in a digital ad that would be featured on the back of the new SPAM cans.

From the outset, the project was more than just another advertising campaign for us at Mysto Productions. It was an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural tapestry of Hawaii and showcase it to the world through the lens of one of our most beloved brands. Kamea Hadar's artwork, inspired by the vibrant colors and textures of Hawaiian street art, brought a fresh and exciting energy to the SPAM brand.

One of the most rewarding aspects of working on this project was the collaboration between Mysto Productions, Kamea Hadar, and the SPAM team. Together, we were able to seamlessly integrate elements of Hawaiian culture into the ad, creating a truly authentic experience for viewers.

Capturing the essence of Hawaiian culture on film was a challenge that we embraced wholeheartedly. Our team scoured the island for the perfect locations, from lush tropical forests to sun-drenched beaches, to provide the backdrop for the ad. We worked closely with local musicians and dancers to ensure that every performance was a true reflection of Hawaiian tradition.

The end result was a digital ad that not only showcased the new SPAM can design but also celebrated the spirit of Hawaii. It was a project that reminded us of the beauty and diversity of our island home, and the importance of preserving and sharing our culture with the world.

As a local production company, Mysto Productions was proud to be a part of this project. It was a reminder of the power of collaboration and creativity, and the impact that a small group of dedicated individuals can have on a global scale. Working on the SPAM digital ad was more than just a job for us – it was a labor of love, a celebration of Hawaiian culture, and a testament to the enduring legacy of a brand that has become a beloved symbol of our island home.
